Video: Here's How Samsung's Promoting The Gear Sport In Korea

Shortly after the Samsung Gear Sport smartwatch went on sale last week, the South Korean OEM launched a new TV commercial detailing some of the product’s characteristics and promoting its capabilities for supporting an active lifestyle. The ad seemingly highlights the fact that the Samsung Gear Sport offers the same functionality as the Gear S3 while borrowing the fitness tracking capabilities of the Gear Fit2 Pro, all wrapped in a waterproof package.

Up until this year, Samsung’s wrist wearables were essentially split into two categories – one aiming to provide the functionalities of a smartwatch with the Samsung Gear S series, and the other striving to promote an active lifestyle with the Gear Fit wristbands. This year, however, the South Korean OEM combined both worlds into a single product which became known as the Samsung Gear Sport. It looks and behaves like a smartwatch while boasting advanced fitness tracking capabilities for a wide range of activities including swimming. The device was first introduced near the end of August and was later presented in a series of tutorial videos on YouTube alongside the Samsung Gear IconX (2018) wireless earbuds prior to its market release last Friday.

Spec-wise, the Samsung Gear Sport features a 1.2-inch Super AMOLED circular display with a resolution of 360 by 360 pixels and relies on an in-house Exynos 3250 Dual processor housing two ARM Cortex-A7 CPU cores clocked at up to 1.0GHz, a Mali-400 MP2 graphics chip, and 768MB of RAM. The smartwatch runs Tizen OS 3.0 and provides on-board GPS, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, as well as various sensors including a heart rate monitor and barometer. Its 300mAh battery can be charged wirelessly thanks to its support for the Qi standard and should offer up to two days of usage on a single charge. Available in black and blue through the company’s first-party retail channels as well as Amazon, the Samsung Gear Sport can be acquired for $299 upfront or with Samsung Financing for $50 a month, and for a limited time only, customers purchasing the smartwatch from the company’s official website will receive a free black Swarovski band.
