Google has detailed the key selling points of one of its newest offering, the Google Pixelbook. The search giant first highlighted the essential hardware features of the device. The Pixelbook is a convertible, meaning that it can be utilized in either one of four modes, namely the laptop, tent, tablet, and entertainment modes. This flexibility, according to Google, adapts the form of its product to the situation or use case. Another important feature is the portability of the Pixelbook as it weighs less than one kilogram. Google also claims that the Pixelbook can last around 10 hours on a single charge, while a 15 minute top up can add up to 2 hours of battery life. The Pixelbook Pen, a stylus compatible with Google Pixelbook, also promises a lag-free writing and drawing experience, while the instant tethering feature automatically connects the computer to the mobile data connection of a Pixel handset once the user moves away from a Wi-Fi network.
The Pixelbook is powered by the search giant’s Chrome OS. The operating system is designed with the security and speed in mind, according to Google, and features like automatic updates and multiple layers of protection work together to prevent malware from compromising the computer. The software upgrades should also prevent the computer from eventually slowing down. People on the go may also use the Pixelbook for creating word documents and composing presentations even without an internet connection using the web apps of Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Once the computer reconnects to the internet, the changes made to the document or spreadsheet will be synced automatically to the cloud with Google Drive. Aside from the web apps, Pixelbook owners can also download Android apps and games straight from the Google Play Store. Examples of applications that can be used on Chromebooks include Netflix and Adobe Lightroom.
Like many of the search giant’s recent offerings, the Pixelbook ships with Google Assistant pre-installed. The device’s keyboard has a dedicated key for the personal assistant and it could be used alongside the “OK Google” voice command to manually trigger the assistant. The Pixelbook is now available on the Google Store starting at $999, while the Pixelbook Pen is a separate purchase and it is priced at $99.
