Motorola Mobility is already working on the follow-up to its recently released Moto X4 mid-ranger, known industry insider Evan Blass suggested earlier today by sharing an image that appears to depict the logo of the upcoming device. The render that can be seen above comes over half a year after Mr. Blass shared the logo of the then-unannounced Moto X4, thus being the first source to reveal the official moniker of the company’s Android-powered handset.
No additional details have been provided by the insider, though it’s understood that the Moto X5 won’t launch before mid-2018, with the Moto X4 still being a relatively new device that only became available for sale in October after being introduced in the run-up to IFA 2017 in late August. While the Moto X lineup used to consist of high-end devices, the Moto X4 wasn’t introduced as a premium offering but one designed to compete in the upper mid-range segment of the smartphone market. The Moto X5 will presumably be part of the same price range that hovers around the $450 mark, depending on the country and the exact model. A dual-camera setup should also be part of the package seeing how the Moto X4 already introduced a two-lens imaging system and its successor is unlikely to revert to a single-sensor solution.
In terms of other specs, logic dictates the Moto X5 will improve on at least some of the Moto X4’s internal hardware, albeit no concrete information on the matter has yet been unveiled. For reference, the Moto X4 came equipped with a 5.2-inch FHD panel and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 630 SoC. The device was available in two variants, with the more affordable one having 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal flash memory, whereas the premium model boasted twice that storage space and 4GB of RAM. The cheaper version of the handset also received an Android One revision in the United States and whether its follow-up also becomes part of Google’s pure Android program will likely depend on the commercial success of its predecessor. The Moto X4 has been extensively leaked for months leading up to its release, so it may not be too long before first details on the Moto X5 emerge as well.
