Motorola Mobility’s Moto X (2017) will be called the Moto X4, industry insider Evan Blass claimed on Saturday. Blass substantiated his statement by sharing an image depicting what’s said to be the official logo of the Lenovo-owned company’s upcoming device. The logo in question can be seen below and — if legitimate — is likely just one of many variants of the branding that Motorola Mobility prepared for the smartphone.
The Moto X4 was unveiled by the Libertyville, Illinois-based firm behind closed doors earlier this week, as evidenced by a number of leaked photographs from the event. According to those images and many previous corresponding reports, the latest addition to the Moto X lineup will boast a 5.5-inch LCD display panel with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels and sport the Snapdragon 660, Qualcomm’s latest mid-range system-on-chip (SoC) that was officially announced on Tuesday. The device is also thought to feature 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage space that will likely be expandable via a microSD card slot by up to 256GB, though the latter has yet to be confirmed by any industry source. Furthermore, the Moto X4 is expected to be powered by a 3,800mAh battery that won’t be removable but should offer above-average battery life considering it’s paired with a rather conservative piece of silicon.
Previous rumors have indicated that the upcoming Moto X4 will be Motorola Mobility’s first smartphone with a dual camera setup, though recent reports on the exact sensor configuration and LED flash placement of the device have been conflicting. On the other hand, most sources seem to agree that the phone will boast IP68 certification and be priced in a rather aggressive manner. The Moto X4 is also said to lack a traditional 3.5mm audio jack and will instead only sport a single USB Type-C port, a trend that the Lenovo-owned phone maker already started embracing with its recent models. Finally, the handset’s body is expected to be made of metal, while its screen will take advantage of 3D glass, previous reports have suggested. There’s still no word on when the Moto X4 will be hitting the market, but the device will likely become available in the United States and a number of other markets in the coming months.
