The South Korean smartphone manufacturer, Samsung, is currently distributing a new version of the Android 8.0 Oreo beta to the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus. This update contains a variety of bug fixes and performance improvements. One of the major improvements included in the new version of the beta software is the enhanced stability of the device’s Bluetooth connectivity. After installing the software package, the handset’s smart share feature will now be able to properly detect television sets manufactured by LG, and it should also significantly reduce the instances of unresponsiveness when the messaging app is in use. The text should now be displayed correctly when people are using the black theme, while the Bixby briefing should work properly after updating the device. It should also prevent the device from restarting when the users call people who are on their recent call list and when people open either the camera or the YouTube app. In addition to the bug fixes, the latest version of the Android 8.0 Oreo beta also includes the latest security patch, presumably the December 2017 Android security patch.
The latest version of the Android 8.0 Oreo beta is now rolling out automatically, and it may take several days before all units receive the installation file. Before downloading the software package, users should check first if there is sufficient free space in the internal flash storage in order to temporarily keep the installation file, which has a size of 613MB. The variants of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus sold in the United States are powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset from Qualcomm while the units of the two smartphones shipped to the rest of the world are equipped with Exynos 8895 SoC. The key difference between the two devices is the display and the battery capacity. The Galaxy S8 sports a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display and it contains a 3,000mAh battery to keep the lights on. On the other hand, the Galaxy S8 Plus includes a 6.2-inch panel and a 3,500mAh battery. Both handsets contain 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal flash storage, which could be expanded by a microSD card.
