The Gionee W919 has just surfaced on TENAA, which essentially means it has been certified in China, as TENAA is China’s equivalent to the FCC. Having said that, the GIonee W919 is a rather interesting phone, not only does it look rather weird for today’s standards, which does not have to be a bad thing, but it’s also 16.2mm thick. Now, you’re probably wondering why is it that thick, well, this seems to be a flip phone of some sort.
It is possible that this is Gionee’s competitor to Samsung in the field of flip phones, you’ll get a regular, physical keypad on the inside of this phone, along with an another display. TENAA confirms that the Gionee W919 sports two 4.2-inch HD (1280 x 720) TFT displays, and as you can see, a single camera is placed on the phone’s back side, along with a fingerprint scanner, and a dual-LED flash which is placed in between the camera and a fingerprint scanner. The back side of the phone also looks quite interesting, unlike anything we’ve seen thus far, this handset actually reminds us of some rugged smartphones that were introduced in China lately. According to TENAA, the Gionee W919 will ship with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of native storage, which you will be able to expand using a microSD card (up to 256GB). The phone will be fueled by an octa-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz, which could even be the Snapdragon 835, but that’s not as likely, we’ll just have to wait and see.
On the back of the Gionee W919, you’ll be able to find an 8-megapixel or 16-megapixel snapper (TENAA is rather unclear when it comes to that), while a 5-megapixel camera will be included on the phone’s front side. Android 7.0 Nougat will come pre-installed on this smartphone, and on top of it, you’ll get Gionee’s custom UI, of course. A 3,000mAh non-removable battery will also be a part of this package, and it seems like the phone will be made out of metal, while leather (or leather-like material) will be included on the back. TENAA mentions only the black-colored Gionee W919, and it’s possible that the phone will arrive in only one color variants. The Gionee W919 will measure 128 x 62.7 x 16.2mm, while it will weigh 230 grams.
