Google is improving Search with new Featured Snippets and more, like an updated Knowledge Panel for easier access to more relevant searches on the results pages of a current query and additional related search topics that are perhaps suitable followup searches to your current search topics. That last part refers specifically to suggestions for more search topics. So for example, if you’re searching for information on a particular destination you want to visit, like Paris, and then you search for topics on the Eiffel Tower, Search could end up potentially giving you suggestions on what to search for next.
Featured Snippets is another part of the update to Search that Google has implemented today and this might be one of the more useful parts, because when you search for a topic on Google, the Featured Snippets are often going to be the first thing you see, as they’re peppered on the results page atop the list of actual results to give you just a little bit of relevant information on what you’re trying to look up. Now, Featured Snippets will include more information and more images, so you actually get more detail before attempting to click on any links related to your specific search query. You can see an example of what this will look like in the image up above, with a selection of images along with what is usually a block of information found on Wikipedia about the topic.
The last part to the new and improved Search is the updated Knowledge Panel. With the Knowledge Panel it’s now possible to see related searches for other topics which are related to your topic. Whenever you search for something on Google, if you scroll the down the page you should end up seeing a section of the results which is labeled as “people also search for,” and this will be the list of related search topics. So if you’re searching for pizza then you may end up seeing related search suggestions in the knowledge panel for Italian food. These improvements should be live in Google Search as of now both on the web and in the Google app.
