Qualcomm and NetEase have teamed up to jointly create gaming content for mobile devices as well as virtual reality (VR) gadgets by adapting NetEase’s game engine called Messiah to the requirements of the American chip maker’s recently launched Snapdragon 845 mobile platform. Qualcomm announced on Friday that it is jointly collaborating with the Hangzhou, China-based internet company to incorporate the Snapdragon 845 mobile platform into a number of NetEase games that are scheduled for unveiling next year, and the titles of those games have yet to be announced in the near future.
NetEase and Qualcomm have already kicked off work meant to provide support to the Vulkan graphics and computer application programming interface (API). For the uninitiated, Vulkan is a modern graphic and compute API designed to help ease the performance requirements for CPUs and instead relegate most of the computing tasks to Qualcomm’s Adreno GPU on the Snapdragon platform. Now both companies are aiming to add more game titles equipped with the Vulkan graphics to a wide selection of gaming content for players. In addition to their IoT-focused endeavor, both Qualcomm and NetEase are collaborating to develop extended reality (XR) technology with the use of the Snapdragon VR Software Development Kit, which has been used to port NetEase’s premium VR title Twilight Pioneers to the Snapdragon.
Additionally, both companies are upholding their ties with some of the top original equipment manufacturers in order to help optimize mobile gaming content on devices. The Snapdragon 845 mobile platform was launched last week by Qualcomm, which bills the technology as the latest mobile system-on-chip. Snapdragon 845 directly succeeds the premium Snapdragon 835 and it provides consumers an initial view of the Android flagships set to be rolled out next year, though the platform does not include any major differences when compared to its predecessor. The platform was developed in collaboration with Samsung with a focus on key areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), VR, fast cellular connectivity, security and long battery life. The Snapdragon 845’s specs include the Adreno 630, support for LPDDR4 RAM, support for two dual-camera setups, and the Snapdragon X20 LTE modem comprising a 5G-enabled module with peak download speeds of 1.2Gbps.
