Samsung Galaxy S9 Image Leak Suggests Single Rear Camera

A leaked photograph of the Samsung Galaxy S9 shows that the handset will likely sport a single rear camera. Unfortunately, there is no additional information yet about the sensor that the rear camera will use. While the smaller device will only have one rear camera, the larger Galaxy S9 Plus is rumored to sport a dual rear camera setup, similar to what is found in the Galaxy Note 8. Another important detail that can be obtained from the image is that the fingerprint scanner is now located under the camera. In contrast, the fingerprint sensor in both the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus are located beside the camera. It also seems that Samsung will ship a variant of the handset containing 64GB of internal flash storage, based on the sticker attached to the back of the smartphone.

Even though the South Korean smartphone manufacturer is expected to launch the Galaxy S9 in the first quarter of 2018, numerous leaks already detail the design and the internal specifications of the smartphone. It is reported that the device will retain the almost bezel-less design of its predecessor, although, in contrast to previous rumors, it will not use a 21:9 display. A recent report also stated that the smartphone will have a 5.77-inch display, which is comparable to the 5.8-inch display that the Galaxy S8 sported. The US variant of the device will probably be powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset from Qualcomm. This SoC is comprised of an octa-core Kryo 385 CPU and the Adreno 630 GPU, and the semiconductor company claims that the product offers 25 percent performance increase and 30 percent improved graphics rendering compared to the Snapdragon 835 that powers the Galaxy S9’s predecessor. On the other hand, the international variant of the smartphone will likely be equipped with the Exynos 9810 chipset, which is comprised of Samsung’s third-generation custom CPU and an improved GPU.

Also based on the leaked image, the Samsung Galaxy S9 will be made of metal and glass. It is reported that the handset can connect to 2G, 3G, and 4G LTE networks and it features 802.11b/g/n WiFi connectivity and GPS navigation. Samsung will probably launch the Galaxy S9 at the Mobile World Congress 2018 which will take place in February next year, and more information about the product will likely be available during the event.
