A new update is now rolling out to Google’s PhotoScan application. This new update will bring PhotoScan to version 1.5, and the main change that it brings is the ability to auto save images. To be more exact, all the photos that you scan through the app will be automatically saved to your phone and Google Photos. That is not the only change, though, this new update also makes the whole process of capturing and saving images much easier, it wasn’t exactly complicated thus far, but it’s more straightforward now.
That is not all, though, the ‘corner editor’ has also been improved with this update, and you’ll also be able to drag the edges to adjust the automatic cropping of your scanned photos, which his a nice addition as well. Google had introduced the PhotoScan app quite some time ago (in November last year), and the app had managed to become quite popular ever since its launch, as it currently stands at somewhere between 5 and 10 million downloads in the Google Play Store, as it sports a 4.3-star rating. PhotoScan had its issues at first, though Google had released quite a few updates thus far in order to amend those issues, the app is much more useful now, though there’s always room for improvement, of course. For those of you who are not familiar with PhotoScan, this application basically gives you a way to digitalize your old photos. Using PhotoScan, as the app’s name says, you’ll be able to scan (aka take a picture) a particular image, and the app will do its best to remove glare from that image, and make it look really nice in a digital format.
So, how does this work, exactly… well, you’ll be required to take several photos in the process, from all four corners of a particular image, and then PhotoScan will process the image, remove glare and adjust the image, after which it will show you the final product. This usually works as it should, but not always, as already mentioned, there’s still room for improvement. PhotoScan is definitely a better option than taking your phone’s camera and just taking single pictures of your old photos, as you’ll get tons of glare on those images, and such images usually don’t look as good.
