ZTE’s unit in Germany has officially confirmed that the Android 8.0 Oreo update is set to launch on the Axon 7 smartphone in April next year, introducing a plethora of new features served up by Google’s latest mobile operating system to the handset. Along with the Android 8.0 Oreo update, the Axon 7 device is also slated to receive a fresh user interface called the Stock+ UI, according to ZTE Germany. As of this time, details about the new UI remain limited, though it is expected to offer performance upgrade and improvements to ZTE’s 2016 flagship model.
The upcoming Android 8.0 Oreo launch for the Axon 7 was first confirmed by the Chinese original equipment manufacturer itself a few days ago, though there was no official release date at that time. The mobile device was unveiled in May last year running the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It was then followed by the arrival of the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update on the Axon 7 in March of this year, packing a number of features such as Wi-Fi Calling for those who are using T-Mobile’s network on this handset, fresh emojis, support for Google Daydream, and a bevy of security patches. Well, the latest update to the phone will bring with it a slew of more advanced features such as the Picture-in-Picture mode for playing a video inside a small window that can be placed anywhere on the screen, Notification Dots for improved notification access and response and other improvements.
In regard to the new UI, ZTE’s new skin for the Axon 7 is likely to launch with some slight variations, though it is not expected to be that much since Android 8.0 Oreo does not bring with it a complete overhaul compared to its predecessor, the Android 7.0 Nougat, but only some major enhancements. As a quick recap, the Axon 7 is a metal-clad smartphone powered by the Qualcomm-made Snapdragon 820 system-on-chip. It sports a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440. It also comes in two variants, with each packing under-the-hood specs including 4GB of RAM paired with 64GB of internal flash memory and 6GB of RAM coupled with 128GB of internal storage, respectively. Axon 7 also boasts a 20-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter.
