Artificial intelligence-powered Android email app Astro Mail received a major update earlier today, debuting support for a built-in calendar that’s also integrated with its voice-enabled digital companion Astrobot. The decision to add a full-fledged calendar to the email client was made because doing so “just makes sense,” the company said, adding that the main purpose of the inclusion was to make Astro Mail users even more productive by saving time they’d usually spend switching between different apps and manually managing their calendars based on information they previously sent or received via email. The mobile app developer claims native calendar support has been the most requested features among the users of its service from the day it launched, giving more credence to its theory that email and calendar functionalities are natural fits for each other.
The newly added solution supports both Office 365 and Gmail calendars and accounts, allowing users to quickly add them to the app, switch between them, or filter through them. Unlike most similar solutions, Astro Mail tries to provide users with a broad range of options for manually managing their email while still automating the process by default, attempting to deliver the best of both worlds. In practice, the app will notify you about what it deems are important messages while also allowing you to snooze emails or set up reminders about them through Astrobot. Scheduled email responses are also part of the package, with all such actions automatically creating calendar entries with the goal of delivering a straightforward overview of your day. Astrobot’s voice interface is completely integrated with the calendar so that you can ask the assistant about particular appointments, openings, and other details about your schedule.
Astro Mail 3.0 also debuts a partial redesign of its interface as it now features five tabs on the bottom in order to provide users with quick access to its new functionalities. Email filters are now accessible from the top of the inbox, primarily to facilitate the process of using them on mobile devices. Astrobot is now even smarter, with its capabilities being clearly divided into general questions under the “Ask Astrobot” category and “Insights” about your communications. Finally, the Zap! functionality designed for freeing your inbox of clutter now provides even more options and can be closely inspected as part of Astrobot’s Insights.
