dokiWatch S, the second-generation smartwatch offering from Doki Technologies, has just been revealed and it is now available for pre-orders. The smartwatch is designed for children between of between 6 and 12 years of age, and offers features that allow parents to communicate with them. For example, the wearable includes a two-way video call functionality wherein either the parent or the child can initiate the call. This is a substantial improvement over the previous generation of the device that only allowed the parents can start a video call. Children can also make voice calls to a list of contacts stored on the wearable and block other mobile phone numbers from calling them. Parents may also send text messages to their children through the dokiWatch S, while children can respond with emoji.
This smartwatch allows parents to keep track of their children with its Smart Locator and Alert Area functionalities. Smart Locator takes advantage of device’s GSM, GPS, and Wi-Fi support in order to determine the exact location of the individual wearing the device, while the Alert Area functionality notifies parents when their children go outside the perimiter of a predetermined location like a school or home. The feature may also alert people when their children have not yet arrived at a given location but were expected to. An SOS button is located on the left side of the smartwatch, and once pressed, the device will send a 60-second audio recording of a child’s surroundings, as well as an emergency notification to all of its registered family contacts. dokiPet, on the other hand, is a virtual pet that keeps track of a child’s physical activities. The wearable boasts support for Alexa, Amazon’s AI-powered personal assistant. The digital helper enables the device’s dokiAsk functionality, a feature that allows children to ask the smartwatch questions. Other new functionalities that come with the dokiWatch S are the self-explanatory Scheduler and Photo Albums services.
All of the listed features of the dokiWatch S work either through Wi-Fi or mobile data networks. There are two available models of the wearable; the first one is sold in the North and South America and supports 3G UMTS networks running on the 1900MHz and 850MHz bands, while the second model is available in Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, and supports 3G networks running on the 2100MHz and the 900 MHz bands. Contained within the wearable is a 600mAh battery which offers up to 24 hours of life on a single charge with standard use. The smartwatch supports Android handsets that run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or newer OS versions. The device is currently available for pre-orders, priced at $219. Consumers can choose among two color options, namely Sonic Blue and Dazzle Pink.
