Samsung is launching the new Galaxy On7 Prime in India and as expected given the previous teaser, the device will be available in the region exclusively through Amazon and Samsung Shop. Sales will begin on the 20th of January and prospective customers will be able to purchase the device for the starting price of Rs. 12,990, or the rough equivalent of $203. The device comes preloaded with several Samsung services including Samsung Pay Mini for wallet transactions, and the Samsung Mall application that can be used to purchase products from partners including Amazon, Jabong, Shopclues, and Tata CLiQ.
As far as hardware specifications go the Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime holds few mysteries for regular readers, as the device was recently spotted in the GFXBench database. As expected, the smartphone is equipped with a 5.5-inch display featuring a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, and it relies on a 64-bit Exynos 7870 chipset housing eight CPU cores clocked at up to 1.6GHz along with an ARM Mali-T830 graphics chip. The CPU works alongside 3GB of RAM in the lower-priced variant featuring 32GB of storage, but there is also a model carrying 4GB of RAM and 64GB of on-board memory. Either way, in both cases the storage can be expanded by up to an additional 256GGB through a microSD card slot. The back panel accommodates a 13-megapixel main camera with an f/1.9 aperture and an LED flash, while the front-facing sensor features the same characteristics sans the flash. In terms of connectivity, the smartphone supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, and 4G VoLTE (Voice over LTE). Users will be able to secure the device through a fingerprint sensor embedded within the front-facing Home button, and they’ll interact with Samsung’s proprietary user interface built on top of Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Overall, the smartphone measures 151.7 x 75 x 8.0 millimeters, it weighs 170 grams, and is powered by a 3,300mAh battery.
The Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime will launch in India in two color options namely Black and Gold, and while the variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of memory will cost Rs. 12,990, the better-equipped alternative with 4GB of RAM and double the on-board storage will be available for Rs. 14,990, or the rough equivalent of $234. This year the Korean tech giant is said to plan on establishing a bigger presence in the Indian e-commerce space in order to compete with Chinese rivals like Xiaomi, so the latest addition to the Galaxy On series might represent the beginning of these efforts.
