Galaxy S7, S7 Edge Receive Dec. 2017 Security Patch On AT&T

AT&T is now pushing out a new update from Samsung to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, and it happens to contain the Android security patch for the month of December. The software update comes with the version number G930AUCS4BQL1 for the Galaxy S7, while the Galaxy S7 Edge is getting the software build G935AUCS4BQL1, both of which are approximately 46MB in size. On top of that, the package also includes a fix for the BlueBorne exploit, a Bluetooth vulnerability which allows a person with the right tools to gain control over your device if they are close enough to it. Therefore, installing the update should be a priority for all Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge users on AT&T’s network.

AT&T’s support page doesn’t reveal any other features of the latest update, though there might be more which haven’t been listed. If you haven’t already received the notification prompting you to update your device, you could manually check whether the December security update is available for your Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge by launching the system Settings app, selecting the “About Device” option tapping the “Software Update” item, and proceeding to the “Download Updates Manually” command. On the other hand, you could wait for the system to prompt you to install the security update after detecting it, just make sure you have at least 50 percent of battery life remaining or plug your smartphone to charge before proceeding with the installation. As the December security update is being delivered over the air, it might take a few days for you to receive it.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge were released by the South Korean firm back in early 2016, though both are still very capable handsets even by today’s standards. Both devices sport almost identical specs and only differ in terms of screen size and battery capacities. The Galaxy S7 packs a 5.1-inch display along with a 3,000mAh battery, while the Galaxy S7 Edge sports a 5.5-inch curved display and a 3,600mAh battery. The duo is scheduled to receive Android 8.0 Oreo later this year, which will be the second and final major OS upgrade in its life cycle.
