We’re still at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, and the latest phone we managed to get some hands-on time with is the PORSCHE DESIGN Huawei Mate 10. This smartphone was announced during last year’s IFA in Berlin, along with its siblings, the Huawei Mate 10 and Huawei Mate 10 Pro. Having said that, the PORSCHE DESIGN Mate 10 is a special edition handset, though it’s identical to the Huawei Mate 10 Pro in both terms of the design and specifications, save for the fact it sports a slightly different paint job, PORSCHE DESIGN branding, and it comes with more storage than the Huawei Mate 10 Pro.
Now, the PORSCHE DESIGN Huawei Mate 10 is a sleek-looking smartphone, no doubt about it, this smartphone is made out of metal and glass, while that strip on the back with PORSCHE DESIGN branding only adds some class to the overall design. Huawei’s branding is present on the back of this smartphone, and the device sports curved edges on both back and the front. All of its physical keys are placed on the right side, and as you can see, the PORSCHE DESIGN branding is placed below this phone’s display as well. The PORSCHE DESIGN Huawei Mate 10 sports really thin bezels, and even though its display is not curved, it comes with a curved glass which is applied on top of that display. The PORSCHE DESIGN Huawei Mate 10 is not all that slippery in the hand, well, at least considering it’s a phone that comes with a glass back, which was the case with the Huawei Mate 10 Pro, which is something we’ve noticed while we were reviewing it. This smartphone also sports a dual camera setup on the back, while a fingerprint scanner sits below those two, vertically-aligned, cameras.
It was actually announced at CES 2018 that the PORSCHE DESIGN Huawei Mate 10 will arrive to the US soon, and that it will cost $1,225, which means it will be quite expensive, but that’s not all that surprising considering that the device carries a €1,395 price tag in Europe. As already mentioned, this is a special edition smartphone, and if you’re looking to get its cheaper alternative (which looks the same and has the same specs, save for storage), get the Huawei Mate 10 Pro instead. The PORSCHE DESIGN Huawei Mate 10 comes with high-end specs, as this is a premium smartphone. The device features a 6-inch fullHD+ AMOLED display, along with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of non-expandable storage. The phone is fueled by Huawei’s most powerful SoC to date, the Kirin 970 64-bit octa-core processor. 20 and 12-megapixel shooters are included on the back of the PORSCHE DESIGN Huawei Mate 10, while the phone also offers 32-bit audio output.
A 4,000mAh non-removable battery is also a part of this package, and it is not removable. A 3.5mm headphone jack is not included here, but you will get an adapter with the phone. An 8-megapixel camera is placed on the front side of the PORSCHE DESIGN Huawei Mate 10, while Android 8.0 Oreo comes pre-installed on the phone, along with Huawei’s Emotion UI (EMUI) 8.0 skin.
