HARMAN Bringing Samsung's QLED & OLED Displays to the Car

HARMAN is taking some of Samsung’s brilliant QLED panels into the automobile, with QLED Auto. HARMAN and Samsung have partnered up to bring QLED displays into the car, while also using advanced flexible and transparent OLEDs. HARMAN believes that this will be a first of its kind, and will bring automotive-grade Cadmium-free Quantum Dot Light-Emitting Diode (QLED) technology. HARMAN says that QLED Auto will add more choice and flexibility in the company’s leading display technology portfolio with Samsung’s leading OLED technology.

One of the main advantages that HARMAN is touting with QLED panels in automobiles is the fact that QLEDs with direct-lit back light technology will allow for better power savings. Which will allow an EV to get a few more miles before needing a charge, or a gas-powered vehicle to go longer without needing to fill up. The partnership between HARMAN and Samsung will improve the premium visual experience in the car. Bringing the popular Quantum Dot-based displays from your living room into your vehicle. These are the same displays that Samsung showed on its latest TV’s at CES 2017 earlier this year. It also will utilize the same algorithms and technical expertise that is capable of producing greater than 100% color volume. On top of that, HARMAN and Samsung are also partnering to use Samsung’s flexible and transparent OLED displays for automotive applications. These will be used for the instrument cluster and other parts of the car, while QLED panels are used for the infotainment system.

HARMAN and Samsung will be demoing its new products for vehicles at CES 2018 in January. On display will be Samsung’s next-generation flexible OLED technology, as well as curved and free-form OLED displays. These are not yet in vehicles but they will be in the very near future. The two companies believe that this two-pronged approach shows that two brands can take their strengths and combine them into a great user experience. By bringing Samsung’s strengths in entertainment and the lifestyle segment, on into the automotive segment, where HARMAN is already fairly popular and are in a number of automobiles already on the market right now.
