Skagen Unveils Android Wear-Powered Falster Smartwatch – CES 2018

This week Skagen announced a new smartwatch as part of the ongoing CES 2018 show. The new watch is now confirmed as “Falster” and in line with the company’s ethos, Falster is designed to be more of a simple-looking and easy to use smartwatch offering consumers all of the features associated with a smartwatch, along with a minimalist design. Falster actually represents a number of firsts for the company in terms of its smartwatch portfolio. As not only is this the company’s first smartwatch to arrive featuring a touch-enabled display, but it is also the company’s first smartwatch to come powered by Android Wear (version 2.0 at launch).

At present, the finer details have yet to be provided so while it is confirmed Falster makes use of a fully round display, the dimensions of the display have yet to be announced. As is the case with most of the other main smartwatch specs, with the exception that along with Android Wear Falster is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor. Skagen has confirmed to make best use of most of the advanced features Falster will need to be connected to a smartphone (via Bluetooth), with no mention of whether aspects like NFC are supported. The battery capacity has also not been confirmed as of yet, although Falster is said to include a “battery-efficient design.” What has been confirmed is the price range with Skagen explaining Falster will be available to buy from as little as $275 and as much as $295. The price depending on which style is chosen with four different bands on offer, two leather-based and two mesh metal-based and all of which are shown below. As for availability, this is also an area that has yet to be exactly detailed although this new smartwatch is expected to become available in the coming weeks/months.

Interestingly, Skagen is not the only new arrival to the Android Wear scene at CES 2018 as kate spade new york also announced a new Android Wear-powered smartwatch at the event. Again, like Skagen’s new Falster, kate spade new york’s new smartwatch is also the first touchscreen-based smartwatch to come from the company.
