Sony Xperia L2 Renders Surface, 16:9 Display In Tow

The design of the Sony Xperia L2, an upcoming handset from the Japanese smartphone manufacturer Sony, has been leaked recently. The renders of the smartphone were released by OnLeaks, and it shows that the Xperia L2 will still be compliant with the manufacturer’s OmniBalance design language, rather than the newer “Mirai” aesthetic. It seems that the Xperia L2 will utilize a display with an aspect ratio of 16:9, and directly above the screen, users may find the earpiece, the logo of the device maker, and a single front-facing camera. The leak also shows several differences between the designs of the Xperia L2 and its predecessor, the Xperia L1 on the back of the handset. In the render, the back panel of the Xperia L2 contains a fingerprint sensor for quickly unlocking the device and located above the scanner are the LED flash and a single rear camera. In contrast, the Xperia L1’s back panel only contains a single rear camera and an LED flash, both of which are placed in the top left corner of the handset’s back.

On the top of the smartphone, users may find the 3.5mm headphone jack according to the render while a loudspeaker, a microphone, and a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer are located on the bottom of the handset. Both the power button and the volume rocker are placed on the right side of the handset while on the left side, people may find the SIM card slot.

Last month, the Sony Xperia L2 was certified by the Malaysian regulators, alongside the Xperia XA2 Ultra, another upcoming handset from the Japanese smartphone manufacturer. The certification states that the Xperia L2 includes a display with a resolution of 720p, and it will ship with Android 7.1.1 Nougat pre-installed. The regulators certified two models of the Xperia L2 and these can be identified through their model numbers H4311 and H4331. While there is little information available about the specifications of the Xperia L2, it is expected to compete in either the lower-midrange or entry-level segment of the smartphone market. The Xperia L2 will potentially launch alongside other upcoming Sony smartphone offerings in the upcoming CES 2018.
