Alcatel has officially unveiled the Android Oreo Go Edition 1X, a new phone that is part of the brand’s upcoming series of devices that are being announced at Mobile World Congress 2018. As the name of the device suggests, the Alcatel 1 X will be running on Android Oreo software in the new “Go” format that Google announced last year. Alcatel is calling the Android Oreo Go Edition 1X one of its best value-oriented products ever, which points to the fact that it aims to offer consumers a really good deal, not just in terms of price but also in regards to features and design.
Though Android Oreo is already a version of the Android operating system which is optimized for devices with low amount of RAM, allowing smoother usability across the platform, the Android Oreo Go Edition phones are also coming with pre-installed “Go” versions of Google’s most popular apps such as YouTube Go, Maps Go, Files Go, and more, which only add to the overall optimization. This is all thanks to the lower memory that is required for these apps to run, as they’re slightly scaled down and already available on the Play Store for compatible devices.
In addition to the above-mentioned apps, Google Go and Gmail Go will also be included, giving users a good start as to the apps they may need or want to use on a daily basis, saving time from having to install these apps as they will already be ready to go once the phone is powered on for the first time. Alcatel hasn’t mentioned any details regarding the pricing or the availability of the Android Oreo Go Edition 1X, so for the time being, it’s unclear how much exactly the phone will cost, where it will launch, and when consumers in those launch regions will be able to buy it. That said, Android Oreo Go Edition phones are not meant to be high-end, and Alcatel as a brand tends to release more affordable devices to begin with, so it’s likely that the 1X will be set at a fairly reasonable cost out the door.
