Two real-life images depicting what’s said to be a prototype of the OnePlus 6 appeared online earlier today, having originally surfaced on Chinese microblogging platform Weibo. The photographs that can be seen above show a device with an elongated 18:9 screen and relatively minimal bezels, as well as a relatively small display notch accommodating a front-facing camera and loudspeaker. The back of the handset features a glossy gray finish that appears to have a chestnut-like glint, though that may be just a side effect of less-than-ideal lighting conditions. The main imaging system of the alleged OnePlus 6 is a dual-camera setup entailing two vertically aligned sensors centered near the top of its rear plate and accompanied by what appears to be a dual-LED (dual-tone) flash unit positioned immediately below the lenses.
A fingerprint reader is also part of the package and while it’s still mounted on the back of the device as was the case with the OnePlus 5T, its shape isn’t circular and instead resembles the stadium-like form factor of the physical Home button found on the OnePlus 5. The sensor is also oriented horizontally and sits above the company’s regular branding. The newly leaked images show a glimpse of what may be the Alert slider, a hallmark of all of the phone maker’s devices, albeit the key appears to have switched sides and is featured on the right edge of the prototype. One of the images reveals the “About phone” section of the System settings app that suggests the handset runs OxygenOS 5.1.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The latest variant of the company’s Android implementation launched in early February as the build 5.0.3, having transitioned compatible OnePlus devices to Android 8.0 Oreo.
The OnePlus 6 has been the subject of numerous rumors in recent weeks and while it’s still unclear how the upcoming Android flagship will look like, the Chinese original equipment manufacturer is likely to stick with the bezel-less aesthetic and 18:9 image format introduced with the OnePlus 5T late last year. Some OnePlus representatives are present at the ongoing Mobile World Congress but didn’t arrive in Barcelona to showcase a new device as the company doesn’t have a booth at the trade show. The OnePlus 6 is expected to be announced this spring, possibly in May.
