It seems like Samsung has started rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo to the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, at least in Europe, and not to all users with unlocked Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus unit. This report comes from AllAboutSamsung, a Germany-based site, and the source claims that the update is hitting consumers who have been a part of the company’s beta program at the moment, while others will start receiving this update later this week.
The source claims that the update weighs 487MB for those who are currently rocking the latest Oreo beta build, while the update will be considerably larger for those of you who are still on Android Nougat. It is worth noting that Samsung concluded the Android Oreo beta program for the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus at the end of last month, and that the final build was announced for February. It is still unknown when will this update start hitting consumers in other markets, but chances are that it will happen soon, at least for unlocked units. This update will bring a number of stock Android Oreo features to the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus handsets, including a system-wide autofill option, an option to run two separate instances of the same app, and so on. On top of that, some Samsung features / apps will be added as well, like the Dual Messenger which first shipped with the Galaxy Note 8.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus were announced back in March last year, while they were made available in April. Those two handsets originally shipped with Android 7.0 Nougat, with Samsung’s Experience UI on top of it. Android 8.0 Oreo comes with Samsung’s Experience UI 9.0 to the company’s flagships, in case you were wondering, so you will see some design changes along the way as well, though nothing major. The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are still the company’s flagships, along with the Galaxy Note 8, as the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus still did not arrive, those two handsets will be announced during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona on February 25. This update will probably reach users in other regions in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
