A rumor surfaced yesterday, claiming that OnePlus is working on a OnePlus X’s successor, well, it seems like that report is completely false. OnePlus’ CEO, Carl Pei, went to Twitter in order to deny rumors of the OnePlus X2. Mr. Pei actually shared GSM Arena’s article which talks about plans for the OnePlus X2, an article that is based on the rumor that surfaced yesterday, and along with the article, Carl Pei simply wrote “Nope”.
The OnePlus X was announced back in October 2015, a couple of months after the OnePlus 2 flagship landed. The OnePlus X was the company’s mid-range offering, and it was considerably smaller than the OnePlus 2, not to mention that it was made out of metal and glass, which makes it the first and only (thus far) OnePlus-branded smartphone to sport a glass back. In any case, OnePlus opted not to release the OnePlus X2 in 2016, and basically ever since the OnePlus X landed, we’ve been seeing OnePlus X2 rumors from time to time. Well, the company’s CEO once again denied such rumors, as was the case a number of times thus far. Yesterday’s rumor actually claimed that the OnePlus X2 will sport the Snapdragon 835 SoC and 4GB of RAM, but that won’t be happening, as the company seems to be focused on releasing flagship phones only, at least for the time being.
OnePlus introduced the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T in 2017, both of those phones were introduced as the company’s flagships, and both are fueled by the same SoC, the Snapdragon 835. The OnePlus 5 landed back in June, while the OnePlus 5T arrived in November. The OnePlus 6 will almost certainly become official in June or July, mid-2018, and it is still not certain whether OnePlus plans to introduce the OnePlus 6T or not. A number of rumors and leaks appeared when it comes to the OnePlus 6, but most of those are false, as it’s still early for legit info to start popping up. Having said that, the OnePlus 6 will almost certainly ship with the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core processor, while the phone will resemble OPPO’s upcoming flagship, the OPPO R12, or whatever the company opts to call it, at least that was the case for the OnePlus 5T, as the phone looked almost identical to the OPPO R11s, while the same can be said for the OnePlus 5 and OPPO R11.
