Huawei P20 Leaks With Display Notch, Missing Three Cameras

While many Android smartphones are now making their debuts at Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona, Spain, others such as the Huawei P20 are still in the rumor state and are leaking online. Huawei is expected to officially unveil its new P20 flagship next month in Paris, but a newly leaked photo now offers a good look at the smartphone’s design from both sides. The revealing photo comes from trusted tipster Evan Blass (@evleaks) who has a good track record when it comes to the accuracy of his leaks.

Based on this photo, it looks like the upcoming Huawei P20 will adopt the 18:9 aspect ratio of most recent flagships, with thin bezels around the display. The handset also seems to have a fingerprint scanner on the front, below its on-screen navigation buttons. More intriguingly, the leaked photo shows the purported Huawei P20 with an iPhone X-like notch at the top of the display, housing the front camera. Recent reports also indicate that Google plans to overhaul its next Android P operating system to natively support such notches, so more Android smartphones could soon boast similar designs. With this in mind, this leaked Huawei P20 with a front camera notch could turn out to be genuine.

On the rear, the purported Huawei P20 appears with rounded corners, glass back, and a dual-camera setup. Previous rumors had indicated that the smartphone would have three rear cameras, as did a recent teaser video from Huawei. On the other hand, there’s a chance that the Huawei P20 will come with two rear cameras, while the higher-end Huawei P20 Plus (or Pro) will feature the rumored triple-camera setup. The leaked photo of the Huawei P20 also shows a “Shirley” branding on the smartphone’s rear casing, which falls in line with Huawei’s habit to use fake brandings on prototype devices. “Shirley” could also be the smartphone’s codename. On the software front, the smartphone seems to be running Android 8.0 Oreo, though it’s not clear whether it has EMUI on top. Huawei is expected to unveil the P20 lineup in Paris, France, on March 27. The series is expected to consist of two flagships and a Lite-branded mid-ranger and start retailing by May.
