Huawei has officially unveiled the Kirin 960-powered MediaPad M5 tablets at Mobile World Congress 2018, all of which come running on the same octa-core processor as they are essentially the same tablet, simply with different screen sizes. The MediaPad M5 will come in varying sizes for the display based on the consumer’s needs, starting with an 8.4-inch display model, then moving up to a model with a slightly bigger display at 10.8-inches. Lastly, there will be the MediaPad M5 Pro, which also comes with a 10.8-inch display but some more powerful specs than the other two models, thus being the ultimate offering in the series.
Screen sizes aside the resolution will be the same on all three of them, though the smallest of the three, the 8.4-inch model, will come with a ppi (pixels per inch) of 359 while the other two come with a ppi of 280, due to the larger screen size. All three models of the MediaPad M5 will come with 4GB of RAM and will come in 64GB and 128GB internal storage sizes, but the MediaPad M5 10.8-inch and 8.4-inch models (no-pro) will come with options for a 32GB storage size for consumers who want to spend a little bit less money if they don’t need all that room. It’s also worth noting that all three models of the MediaPad M5 will support expandable storage up to 256GB via microSD card, so there is incentive to save some money if you don’t care to store everything on the internal storage of the tablet.
All three models of the Huawei MediaPad M5 will come with Android 8.0 Oreo software out of the box and with Huawei’s latest version of EMUI, which will be version 8.0, and will come with 13-megapixel rear cameras with auto focus, as well as 8-megapixel front cameras for selfies and video chat. The 8.4-inch model will come with a 5,100mAh battery which is still plenty of battery power, and the other two models will come with a 7,500mAh battery to account for the larger screens. All will also come with USB Type-C ports for the charging and data transfer needs, so charging shouldn’t take too long.
