LG is releasing the Lavender Violet variants of the G6 and Q6 Android smartphones next week, with the tech giant planning to make them available for purchase on Wednesday, February 21. The new handset models will initially debut in LG’s home country of South Korea but are expected to become more widely available in the coming months. Originally announced late last month, the Lavender Violet versions of the devices debuted alongside two other new color options: Moroccan Blue and Raspberry Rose. The latter has already been commercialized in select markets and is also set to expand its availability in the near future. The firm’s last Android flagship can already be purchased with a Lavender Violet finish in the West. The new LG G6 and Q6 models may be confirmed for a global release later this month at this year’s edition of Mobile World Congress.
While the LG G6 is nearly a year old now, the fact that it’s receiving a new color variant is in line with the company’s new product strategy that did away with major flagship releases on an annual basis, at least as far as introducing new models after an arbitrary 12-month mark is concerned. Instead, the device that was first meant to be the successor to the G6 has recently been canceled, with LG’s top management reportedly ordering its development to start again from scratch. The handset in question supposedly won’t be advertised as the G7 and will instead adopt a different name, though it’s presently unclear whether the tech giant opted for a partial rebranding and will release it as the G9 so as to bring its version number in line with that of its rivals or if it ends up completely doing away with the “G” name.
The next addition to the Android flagship lineup is rumored to be code-named “Judy” and is reportedly being targeted for a June launch. For much the same reasons, the LG V40 isn’t expected to be introduced in late summer like its predecessor but is more likely to debut near the end of the year or around CES 2019. The follow-up to the G6 will reportedly sport a 6.1-inch FullVision screen using an MLCD+ panel with white sub-pixels instead of the POLED module found on the V30 and Google’s Pixel 2 XL whose display was also manufactured by LG.
