A set of renders depicting what’s said to be Huawei’s P20 appeared online on Friday, having been authored by known industry insider Steve Hemmerstoffer — better known by his Twitter handle @OnLeaks — and shared by tech blog TigerMobiles. Much like the Huawei P20 Lite leak from yesterday, the latest set of images seen in the gallery below is said to have been based on information provided by reliable industry sources and should be a relatively accurate depiction of the final product that’s meant to succeed the P10 and P10 Plus Huawei launched in early 2017.
The source claims the Chinese tech giant last tested two prototypes, one with a physical Home button beneath its display, and another one that lacks such a key, though it’s currently unclear which design will end up being commercialized by the company and whether it’s possible that both will since the next Huawei-made flagship lineup is set to consist of two devices. The bottom side of the handset has two stereo speakers flanking a USB Type-C port from the sides, whereas the opening on its top is understood to be an IR blaster and not a 3.5mm audio jack. The company is hence expected to do away with the popular headphone port despite including it in both the P10 and the more recently launched Mate 10 series. The display of the smartphone appears to be of the 18:9 variety and features a notch at its top that’s reminiscent of the design language Apple used for the creation of the iPhone X, albeit it’s noticeably narrower. The P10 Plus is expected to feature a 6.0-inch screen, with its overall dimensions amounting to approximately 155.3 x 74.2 x 7.7mm when accounting for its curved edges. The area of the camera bump is said to be around 9.8mm thick. The display notch accommodates a two-sensor camera system whose specifications remain unknown.
The back panel of the premium mobile device features a triple-camera setup, though the third lens doesn’t appear to protrude from the metal-and-glass body as much as the two main ones do. The purpose of the third sensor remains unclear, though the system itself was likely designed and manufactured by Leica, a well-known German optics company that’s been collaborating with Huawei for years now. The P20 series is expected to be announced on March 27 at a dedicated product launch event in Paris and start retailing on a global level by April.
