An Official New D&D Title Is Under Development By Ludia

The Dungeons & Dragons role-playing franchise is getting a new mobile title thanks to a newly announced partnership between the mobile developers as Ludia and long-time tabletop game makers Wizards of the Coast. Unfortunately, for now, there haven’t been too many details released about the new game aside from a trailer and a tentative title – Warriors of Waterdeep. However, that’s also a working title and might be changed before its final release. Thankfully, anybody interested in checking it out only needs to sign up at the official site via the button below to get more information from Ludia as it becomes available.

In the meantime, the trailer and information provided by the developer’s announcement do provide at least a couple of hints about gameplay and other aspects of Warriors of Waterdeep. For starters, the story behind Waterdeep appears to be that there is some great threat present in the Forgotten Realms that needs to be addressed, forcing Laeral Silverhand to summon warriors to explore Waterdeep in a maze-like choose-a-path fashion. Players will take on that role of summoning warriors from a diverse selection, equipping them and presumably leveling them up as the game progresses. It isn’t immediately clear how much depth will be added to allow for skills and abilities to be upgraded or chosen but the trailer does show that there will be choices to make when it comes to equipping weaponry. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that each warrior will have an assigned “class” and “race” – whether elf, dwarf, or human – and that those will add a layer of strategy when choosing how to equip them. There will, of course, be plenty of larger-than-life combat and loads of loot to collect, following the trend of D&D since its inception. Each enemy will almost certainly require a different strategy to beat if the game holds true to the more traditional tabletop version.

Pre-registration will also net players a special startup pack called the Laeral Gift Pack when the title finally launches. It may be reasonable to assume that Warriors of Water Deep will be a free-to-play title with in-app purchases. However, that’s not necessarily the case and should be taken with a dose of skepticism. In the meantime, there’s no solid launch date either, but the game is expected to launch sometime this spring. So anybody interested is definitely going to want to sign up as this could easily become one of the most popular titles in the Play Store.
