Report: LG V30s To Feature 'LG Lens' And Launch At MWC 2018

One of LG’s executives, CY Kim, a Managing Director at LG Electronics Africa, confirmed that an upgraded LG V30 unit will launch at MWC 2018, and now the phone’s name, and pricing leaked. This handset will be called the LG V30s it seems, and it will become available in South Korea first, at the beginning of next month. It is also worth noting that this phone will quite probably become official on February 26 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, during LG’s press conference.

According to the report, the device will be available through all three major carriers in South Korea, SK Telecom, LG Uplus and KT, and it will be priced at 1 million won ($920), while the report even goes to saying that the phone may become available in LG’s homeland on March 9. The LG V30s will, according to the source, ship with 256GB of internal storage, more than both the LG V30 (64GB) and LG V30 Plus (128GB). The LG V30s will look the same as the LG V30 and V30 Plus, which was to be expected. Now, this phone will differentiate from its siblings by shipping with the ‘LG Lens’ function, and it will become the first LG-branded handset to ship with this feature. Now, LG Lens is expected to bring some AI features to the phone’s camera(s), and it seems like it will function similar to Bixby Vision, at least according to the provided info. That means that you will be able to take a picture of something, let’s say a pack of cigarettes, and LG Lens will track that product down online, for example. LG Lens will also support barcode and QR code recognition, and it will also function as a language translation tool.

Now, the source did not exactly elaborate on the phone’s specifications, but chances are that they will remain the same as on the LG V30 and V30 Plus. That means that the phone will be fueled by the Snapdragon 835 64-bit octa-core SoC, and that it will ship with a 3,300mAh non-removable battery. 16 and 13-megapixel snappers will be included on the back of the device, where you will also be able to find the phone’s fingerprint scanner. A 6-inch QHD+ FullVision P-OLED display will also be included in the package, while the device will sport really thin bezels, just like its siblings.
