A render depicting what’s said to be the Galaxy S9 with a pink protective case appeared online earlier today, having been spotted in a product listing from smartphone accessory maker MobileFun. The image seen above largely corresponds with the information revealed by many older leaks showing Samsung’s next Android flagship, even though it doesn’t appear to be perfectly representative of the final product, with the render failing to accurately illustrate the depth of the phone’s Edge Display. That detail aside, the premature listing is yet another addition to the long list of leaks claiming the smaller Galaxy S9 will be visually almost identical to the Galaxy S8, featuring a single-lens camera setup and a screen-to-body ratio of approximately 85-percent.
The main difference in the design of the upcoming device and its predecessor comes down to the position of its fingerprint reader which has now been oriented horizontally and is situated beneath its back camera. The area previously occupied by the sensor has now been taken by the smartphone’s dual-LED (dual-tone) flash unit and a heart rate monitor, with the look of its rear plate hence being reminiscent of the aesthetic adopted by the 2016 Galaxy S7 lineup. The phablet depicted in the newly uncovered render appears to be of the Midnight Black variety, with Samsung being expected to offer three or four color options at launch.
The larger Galaxy S9 Plus is rumored to be significantly different than its smaller peer, supposedly featuring a dual-camera setup on its rear panel and coming with 6GB of RAM instead of 4GB. Both devices are set to be powered by the latest mobile chips the industry has to offer and should ship with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 and Samsung Foundry’s own Exynos 9810, depending on the market. The handsets are expected to run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box enhanced with Samsung’s mobile software suite and should support Google’s Project Treble which may allow the phone maker to develop and push out updates for them in a more timely manner than what was the case with its previously released mobile offerings. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus are scheduled to be officially announced on Sunday, a day before Barcelona-based MWC 2018 officially starts.
