Snapdragon 670 To Debut Inside OPPO R13 & R13 Plus: Rumor

OPPO is rumored to be working on the R13 and R13 Plus smartphones said to be the first mobile devices to feature Qualcomm’s unannounced Snapdragon 670 chip. A pair of OPPO phones was recently certified in China bearing the model numbers “PAAT00” and “PAAM00” which might end up being the OPPO R13 and R13 Plus, with that assumption being based on the fact that the two phones were listed as supporting 20W fast charging using OPPO’s patented VOOC fast charging technology which has only been used by the brand’s R-series handsets so far.

Both phones might also include an under-display fingerprint sensor, according to recent rumors. The two devices should succeed the OPPO R11s and R11s Plus that were announced in October last year. The OPPO R11 and R11 Plus, announced last June, were also the first smartphones to sport the Snapdragon 660 processor. However, the Snapdragon 670 chip that may be powering the new OPPO-made devices hasn’t been officially announced yet. According to a previous leak, the Snapdragon 670 will be an upper mid-range chipset that will be built on the 10nm FinFET process technology from Samsung. The more premium Snapdragon 835 and Exynos 8895 chips are also built on the same process node and the Snapdragon 670 may be the first mid-range processor to utilize the technology, hence offering an unprecedented level of energy efficiency in its price range.

The Snapdragon 670 will reportedly be an octa-core chipset with six Cortex A55 high-efficiency cores and two Cortex A75 high-performance cores. The Kryo 300 Silver and Kryo 300 Gold clusters will supposedly feature maximum clock speeds of 1.7GHz and 2.6GHz, respectively. The processor is expected to include the Adreno 615 GPU along with Qualcomm’s X20 gigabit modem. OPPO is one of the first OEMs that have joined hands with Qualcomm to launch smartphones sporting the Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem in 2019 and has publicly supported the chipmaker’s efforts to resist Broadcom’s hostile takeover attempt in recent weeks, with the ties between the two presently being stronger than ever. Due to that state of affairs, an OPPO-branded debut for the Snapdragon 670 arguably wouldn’t be too surprising. As the Snapdragon 660 launched last May, its successor might follow a similar release schedule and be made official in late spring.
