The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus will be capable of delivering “super low-light photos,” according to one person with first-hand experience of the upcoming device. The insider who was also briefed on the smartphone says Samsung’s next Android flagship will feature a dual-camera setup consisting of at least one lens with a variable aperture meant to improve its imaging capabilities in poorly lit conditions. The U.S. variant of the Galaxy S9 Plus will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 chip clocked at 2.4GHz, according to the same source, with that operating frequency presumably pertaining to the energy-efficient cluster of Qualcomm’s most powerful chip to date which should otherwise be able to reach peak speeds of 2.8GHz.
The phablet will feature a 3,500mAh battery, much like the Galaxy S8 Plus did, in addition to boasting 6GB of RAM, the same person said, adding that the regular Galaxy S9 won’t have as much RAM at its disposal. Previous rumors pointed to the base model retaining the 4GB configuration of its predecessors, as well as a single-camera setup on its rear panel, though also ennobled with the addition of a lens with an adjustable aperture. The more premium member of the upcoming smartphone family leaked in new supposedly official renders just yesterday, with the emerged images showing an Infinity Display-centric design with an elongated display panel that curves around its long edges. Samsung is expected to retain the 18.5:9 aspect ratio of its previous offerings with the Galaxy S9 lineup and reposition their fingerprint readers below the rear cameras, oriented horizontally.
The same source previously claimed the smaller Galaxy S9 will start at approximately $750 on AT&T’s network and become available for purchase in the second half of March, debuting alongside its larger counterpart that the same carrier will reportedly retail for around $850. Other reports suggested Samsung is targeting a global release on March 16, with the company itself already confirming its next-generation mobile offerings will be officially announced this Sunday, February 25. As was the case with the Galaxy S8 series, the Galaxy S9 family is widely expected to enjoy immense commercial success and will likely be the best-selling Android smartphone lineup of the year.
