Three Android-powered Nokia smartphones are set to be released in India this April, NokiaPowerUser reported earlier this month, citing retail sources from the South Asian country. HMD Global is said to be planning to debut the Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 1, and the Nokia 9 in India and will presumably host at least two separate product launch events in order to do so. According to the latest rumors, the Nokia 9 is the same device that some industry insiders are referring to as the Nokia 8 Sirocco, though it’s presently unclear whether the Nokia 8 (2018) is still on the cards as previous reports suggested.
All three mobile devices are likely to be announced at this year’s Mobile World Congress scheduled to take place later this month, with the Finnish phone company previously promising to reveal some “awesome” new products at the Barcelona, Spain-based trade show. The Nokia 6 (2018) is the only handset expected to make an appearance at MWC 2018 that has already been announced, having officially debuted in China last month. HMD also isn’t giving up on the feature phone segment in 2018 and is planning to introduce at least two such devices at the upcoming event, according to previous reports, with industry sources claiming a new version of the Nokia 3310 (2017) with 4G capabilities will almost certainly debut in late February. The Nokia 1 has been the subject of numerous leaks in recent months and is thought to be an Android Go handset with entry-level specs and a lightweight version of Google’s mobile operating system.
The international version of the Nokia 6 (2018) has previously been benchmarked as the Nokia 6.1 and is expected to feature 3GB of RAM. A global variant of the Nokia 7 may also be launched at MWC 2018, possibly advertised as the Nokia 7 Plus. HMD has a relatively successful year behind it and is expected to continue pursuing aggressive growth around the world, with Nokia mobile devices already outselling some of their major competitors such as Sony and HTC, according to recent reports. The majority of Nokia-branded smartphones that will be unveiled at MWC 2018 are unlikely to ever make their way to the United States, whereas those that do aren’t expected to launch before mid-2018.
