US Cellular is introducing a few changes to its prepaid plans and as a result, the network operator recently dropped the price of its unlimited prepaid data plan that was launched nearly a year ago from the original $70 per month to $55. Furthermore, the carrier is adding a new prepaid plan for a monthly fee of $40, and for a limited time, all customers joining the operator on a new $55 or $40 agreement will be able to acquire the Moto E4 Plus or Samsung’s Galaxy J3 (2017) free of charge. Additionally, it appears that certain retail partners that have yet to be mentioned by the wireless carrier will take advantage of a new exclusive 1GB prepaid data plan priced at $35 per month.
The new $55 data plan still offers 15GB 1.5Mbps of data, whereas the $40 plan offers 3GB of same speeds. Both plans technically offer unlimited data but once you hit the soft cap, your speeds will be throttled down to 2G ones until the next billing cycle. The same should also apply to the exclusive 1GB data plans sold by select retailers for a monthly fee of $35, though that has yet to be confirmed by the mobile service provider.
To make the new plans more attractive, new customers are also eligible to receive the Moto E4 Plus or Samsung’s Galaxy J3 (2017) free of charge. Both smartphone models have been released last year, and both fit in the mid-range market with fairly similar hardware specifications. The Moto E4 Plus is the larger device carrying a 5.5-inch display, while Samsung’s handset has a 5-inch diagonal. Both screens feature a resolution of 1280 x 720, leading to a pixel density of around 267 pixels per inch on the Moto E4 Plus, and 294ppi on the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017). Another key difference lies in their choice of silicon, with Motorola’s device carrying the Snapdragon 427 chipset from Qualcomm, and the Samsung-made phone employing an in-house Exynos 7570 SoC, both featuring a total of four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at up to 1.4GHz, paired with 2GB of RAM.
