Some of Motorola’s upcoming smartphones expected to be unveiled in a matter of weeks have recently been certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance where their choices of chipsets were disclosed, and in addition, Motorola’s new G6 series was also indirectly confirmed to carry displays with an 18:9 aspect ratio, at least according to a recently uncovered HTML benchmark. Specifically, although the benchmark results show an erroneous screen resolution of 360 x 720, these figures are indicative of an 18:9 aspect ratio, so the Moto G6, G6 Play, and the G6 Plus should have a resolution of at least 1,440 by 720 pixels. Furthermore, the Wi-Fi Alliance and the aforementioned HTML benchmark show that these devices, together with the Moto E5 and E5 Plus, will run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.
As far as internal hardware goes, according to the WFA, the Motorola device carrying the model number XT1922-1 should be powered by the MSM8937 chipset, which is also known as the Snapdragon 430. As a reminder, the XT1922-1 is believed to hit the market under the name of Moto G6 Play, which would be a budget-friendlier alternative to the standard Moto G6. Meanwhile, the XT1944-1 and XT1924-1 believed to be the Moto E5 and E5 Plus are apparently powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 425 SoC, which is referred to as the MSM8917 in the WFA’s certificates.
Earlier this week, the XT1922-1, i.e. the Moto G6 Play was also certified by Taiwan’s National Communications Commission, or NCC, signaling what might be an imminent market launch. In fact, Motorola is expected to attend this month’s Mobile World Congress where not only the Moto G6 Play could be unveiled, but also the Moto E5 and E5 Plus. It’s interesting to note that the Moto G6 family would become Motorola’s first smartphone lineup to adopt the new 18:9 aspect ratio. The Moto G6 Play was the subject of quite a few leaks over the past few weeks, and according to the newly uncovered information, the device should offer a 5.7-inch display and be released in multiple storage and RAM variants, including the ones with 2GB and 3GB of RAM coupled with 16GB or 32GB of internal memory, respectively. MWC 2018 is set to open its doors to the public on February 26 so it’s likely that the first official details on Motorola’s upcoming Android series will be made available in a few weeks.
