Google Assistant support has gone live for Arlo cameras a mere couple of weeks after the company announced that compatibility with Google’s digital assistant software would be on the way in the near future. This bodes well for anyone with Arlo products as the turnaround for getting the support up and running was a long process and didn’t require users to wait too long from when the announcement was made that it would be added.
To reiterate Google Assistant compatibility is there for every single camera that Arlo sells, which is the Arlo Pro 2, the Arlo Pro, the Arlo Go, the Arlo Baby, the Arlo Q, and the Arlo Q Plus, so no matter which one you have, or if you have all of them, you can use your voice to control each one and see the video recording feeds for them at any time. While this will work with Google Home speakers, like the Google Home, Google Home Mini, and Google Home Max, it’ll also work for Google Assistant on any other device which has it built-in, such as Android smartphones, Android Wear smartwatches, and other smart speakers that aren’t part of the Google Home line.
There’s essentially only one command as all you’ll be doing is asking Google to show the video for the camera you want to view, other than that there’s not a whole lot else Google Assistant will do for you in this regard, but it’s important to remember too that there isn’t really a whole lot that consumers will need it to do with the cameras beyond showing the feed anyway. That said, Arlo could decide to add more commands at some point in the future if it feels the need to do so, and if it feels they will enhance the user experience. If setting this up would be your first time configuring Google Assistant with a smart home product, the process is pretty easy and take a whole lot of steps. To configure things you can go into the Google Home app and then tap on the hamburger menu, and the tap the home control option. From there you can simply hit the floating action button at the bottom to add a new device and then you’ll be able to see and add each Arlo camera you have set up.
