A render depicting what’s said to be the Huawei P20 Porsche Design leaked online earlier this week, having first emerged on Chinese social media platform Weibo this Thursday. The image that can be seen above adds more credence to recent reports and manufacturer’s own hints suggesting its upcoming Android flagship will have a triple-camera setup, though it isn’t perfectly in line with previous leaks of the device. Whereas many older renders and alleged prototypes were showing three vertically arranged sensor, the newly uncovered image reveals a horizontal alignment, with one dual-camera setup and a distant third lens which may be of the telephoto variety and is separated from the rest of the system by an LED flash.
Leica’s branding is clearly visible on the handset, indicating Huawei is once again partnering with the Wetzlar, Germany-based optics company in order to craft a unique mobile imaging experience for one of its smartphone families. The finish of the leaked device appears to be of the matte black variety, with its overall shape being indicative of an elongated form factor with an 18:9 display panel. A new “P” logo is also present on the device, centered approximately a quarter of the way down its rear plate.
While Huawei is previously said to have considered the idea of introducing the P20 series at Mobile World Congress, the company reportedly ended up postponing its launch for a month in order to avoid directly taking on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus which Samsung announced in Barcelona late last month. The new flagships are now expected to debut at a dedicated product launch event scheduled to take place on March 27 in Paris, France. Besides the regular P20, the lineup is also expected to include the P20 Lite mid-ranger, P20 Pro flagship, and the newly emerged P20 Porsche Design that’s likely to be a redesigned version of the P20 Pro and cost approximately $1,400. Porsche and Huawei have been product partners for several years now, having recently collaborated on a marketing stunt that saw the Mate 10 Plus become the world’s first phone to drive a car.
