Jurassic World Alive Adds Dinosaurs To Pokemon GO Formula

Filmmaking giant Universal and developer Ludia on Wednesday announced Jurassic World Alive, a new mobile game seeking to add dinosaurs to the Pokemon GO formula. The title is planned to be released this spring, shortly before Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom hits theaters in the United States and Canada on June 22. The location-based game tasks players with exploring their surroundings and collecting various dinosaurs that they can also encounter through the lens of their mobile cameras, with Jurassic World Alive featuring an augmented reality component.

Besides the core gameplay revolving around discovering and catching new dinosaurs, Jurassic World Alive also borrows other elements such as incubators from Pokemon GO, though the capturing mechanic plays out somewhat differently; instead of spinning a Poke ball at the massive pre-historic creatures, players will be able to “catch” them by deploying AR drones meant to collect DNA samples which will later allow them to create their own genetically modified creatures, Ludia says. Jurassic World Alive will also support real-time player-versus-player arenas, a feature that Pokemon GO fans have been asking for over a year and a half at this point. Some role-playing elements will also be part of the package, with Ludia confirming its upcoming title will have a leveling system. The game is expected to launch as a free-to-play offering with optional in-app purchases, being the studio’s first mobile AR creation to date.

Jurassic World Alive marks the third game created through a Universal-Ludia collaboration, with the Montreal, Canada-based developer previously being commissioned to make Jurassic Park Builder and Jurassic World: The Game, both of which were also meant to accompany blockbuster movie releases. Outside of its collaboration with the Games and Digital Platforms division of NBCUniversal, Ludia is known for its work on other licensed mobile games such Battlestar Galactica: Squadrons, Ninja Turtles: Legends, Dragons: Rise of Berk, and The Price is Right. Players intrigued by Jurassic World Alive are already able to pre-register their interest in the title by referring to the Google Play Store banner below.
