The OnePlus 6 will come with a notch at the top of the display, based on a new report out of Android Central which draws on screenshots said to have been received by a “source close to OnePlus.” If correct, this means OnePlus will look to follow what has clearly become a trend in Android of late with a number of manufacturers having recently announced notch-touting smartphones.
Coming to the screenshots, and the reason these are thought to be acting as further confirmation of the notch is the shots show very little activity in the status bar and none where the notch would be positioned. While this is not a guarantee of a notch in itself, it does imply a notch is likely to be in effect. Further adding to the notion, it what seems to be the employment of an 19:9 aspect ratio. Design aside and the screenshots show the phone – currently going by the ‘OnePlus A6000’ codename – as having recently undertaking an AnTuTu test. The results of which is the OnePlus 6 scoring 276510. Although leaked benchmark scores should never be taken as granted, if correct, they do show the OnePlus 6 as a high performing smartphone. Leading to the suggestion this one will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC.
Although these are fairly big assumptions to make based on leaked screenshots, they are not without precedent. As earlier today what was said to be real-life photos of the upcoming OnePlus 6 surfaced on Weibo. These photos also visibly showed what is a notch at the top of the scene as well as a taller and slimmer display – further confirming the aspect ratio. While additionally looking to confirm the inclusion of Android 8.1 (Oreo) as the operating system version in use. Those images also showed off the back of the phone including a vertically-aligned dual rear camera setup along with a rear-side positioned fingerprint sensor. When taking together, these two most recent leaks do seem to collectively add to the suggestion the OnePlus 6 will maintain a bezel-less display design, as well as a heightened spec list, the latest consumer version of Android, and of course, a notch.
