Samsung is planning to launch its upcoming Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A6 Plus mid-rangers in Europe, Russia, and the Middle East, SamMobile reported Tuesday, citing no specific sources. The smartphone duo is expected to be offered as a more affordable alternative to the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8 Plus (2018), both of which were introduced in late 2017 as Samsung’s contenders in the upper mid-range segment of the smartphone market. The new series has already been spotted in a number of mobile benchmark listings and has also been certified by several regulators around the world, with those sightings revealing some of its possible specifications.
The Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A6 Plus are hence expected to be identified by the model numbers SM-A600FN and SM-A605G, with the former being powered by the Exynos 7870 and 3GB of RAM. The latter is expected to include Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 chip and 4GB of RAM, whereas both are likely to launch with 32GB of internal flash memory expandable by up to 256GB via a microSD card. Likewise, the duo should run Samsung Experience based on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, with its operating system base of choice guaranteeing support for Google’s Project Treble which would allow Samsung to develop, test, and distribute software updates for the handsets in a timelier manner compared to its previous products, at least in theory.
Both devices are likely to feature single-lens camera setups but it’s presently unclear whether they’ll end up launching with 16:9 screens or more elongated panels. Samsung’s Infinity Display-centric design already started trickling down to the company’s non-flagship offerings with the aforementioned Galaxy A8 (2018) lineup. The budget-friendly nature of the two handsets suggests Samsung may eventually launch them outside of the newly reported markets, with Latin America and India being two other possible targets of the Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A6 Plus. Last week, Samsung announced its most powerful mid-range chip to date, having unveiled it in the form of the Exynos 9610, but the company has yet to announce any Android smartphones that (will) utilize it.
