Samsung is apparently gearing up to add new members to its Galaxy A series, as two unannounced handsets believed to be the Galaxy A6 and the Galaxy S6 Plus were just spotted on the Geekbench benchmarking database. So far, Samsung has left a gap between the Galaxy A5 and the Galaxy A7 smartphones, but the Galaxy A6 series should fit somewhere in between. The benchmark listings reveal the core specifications for each handset and it looks like they will come in the upper-mid-range segment of the smartphone market, as expected from a Galaxy A-series device.
The Geekbench listings are for two devices with model numbers SM-A600FN and a SM-A605G, which should be the Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A6 Plus, respectively. No information is currently available as to when they will become official or whether they will also have a year attached to their name, like the Galaxy A5 (2018), for instance. The benchmarks reveal that the Galaxy S6 will come with an in-house Exynos 7870 processor, which packs eight Cortex-A53 cores and a Mali-T830 GPU. It’s the same processor powering a number of Samsung J-series smartphones, as well as the Galaxy A3 (2017). The Galaxy A6 further features 3GB of RAM, and is listed with Android 8.0 Oreo.
The Galaxy A6 Plus, meanwhile, is listed with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, which includes an Adreno 506 GPU. This model will come with Android 8.0 Oreo as well, but will have more RAM than the Galaxy A6 – 4GB instead of 3GB. Although the two handsets will apparently pack different processors, the performance should be very similar. Samsung usually launches both Exynos and Snapdragon-powered versions of smartphones for different regions, so this could mean that the Galaxy S6 might be the global model while the Galaxy A6 Plus could launch in Asia and South America. The benchmark listings don’t offer other spec details, but the Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A6 Plus are expected to feature Samsung’s Infinity Displays just like the Galaxy A8. Galaxy A-series smartphones typically feature a sleek design, and the Galaxy A6 series should be no different. Since the two smartphones have already reached Geekbench, it might not be long before Samsung makes an official announcement.
