A new smartphone model which appears to be a part of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy J3 (2018) lineup was recently approved by Bluetooth SIG and the Wi-Fi Alliance, and in both cases, the device is being referred to as the Samsung Galaxy J3 Top bearing the model number SM-S357BL. Hardware specifications are missing but according to the WFA, the unit is seemingly powered by Android 8.0 Oreo.
The Samsung Galaxy J3 Top joins two other previously-trademarked monikers linked with the upcoming Galaxy J3 (2018) series, namely the Galaxy J3 Star and J3 Orbit, both of which have been discovered in the USPTO database over the course of the past couple of months. Along with the standard variant which appears to carry the model number SM-J337A, Samsung may also release yet another spin-off under the name of Galaxy J3 Pro (2018) which has been linked with the model number SM-J337P. In total, this brings the number of smartphones in the upcoming Galaxy J3 (2018) lineup to a total of five, though there is also the possibility that the “Star,” “Orbit,” and “Top” monikers could be interchangeable as they may represent the same device in different market regions.
Hardware specifications for the so-called Samsung Galaxy J3 Top are unknown, however, the device will presumably fit in the same range as the Galaxy J3 (2018) and its Pro variant with slight variations. The two aforementioned models have been previously tested with the benchmarking tool Geekbench and according to this data, the standard model should feature an Exynos 7570 chipset clocked at up to 1.43GHz, while the Galaxy J3 Pro (2018) should rely on the more powerful Exynos 7885 silicon operating at a frequency of up to 1.59GHz. Both models pair their processors with 2GB of RAM, and they were tested while running Android 8.0 Oreo, which seems to be a common theme among devices in this upcoming smartphone series. Availability details are missing at the time of writing, but with each new regulatory approval, it’s evident that the OEM is bringing these smartphones closer to their release. As a point of reference, the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2018) was officially announced in June 2017 and launched one month later in various markets in single and dual-SIM flavors.
