Samsung India Prematurely Reveals Galaxy J7 Prime 2

Samsung India on Friday prematurely revealed the Galaxy J7 Prime 2, having launched the product page of its next Android mid-ranger before the handset has been officially announced. While the company often introduces its non-flagship devices without much fanfare, it generally avoids doing so for mid-rangers targeted at India and the move itself is understood to be a misstep given how the page in question has been taken down shortly after going live. The original listing can still be accessed by referring to the source link below which leads to a version of the page cached by Google. The handset has been revealed with an Rs. 13,900 price tag, which amounts to approximately $214, with Samsung stating it will retail the Galaxy J7 Prime 2 in Black and Gold color options.

Both variants will be identified by the model number SM-G610FZKO and ship with 32GB of internal flash memory expandable via a microSD card slot by up to 256GB. The handset itself is equipped with a 5.5-inch TFT display panel whose resolution hasn’t been disclosed but is likely of the 720p variety, with the official product renders clearly revealing a 16:9 screen. The main camera of the Galaxy J7 Prime 2 uses a 13-megapixel sensor with an f/1.9 lens, whereas its regular-sized top bezel accommodates an 8-megapixel module. The handset is listed as being powered by an unspecified octa-core processor that’s likely a member of Samsung’s own Exynos silicon family, possibly even the same Exynos 7870 found inside the first Galaxy J7 Prime. The phablet has 3GB of RAM, dual-SIM capabilities, a physical Home button doubling as a fingerprint reader, and support for 4G LTE networks, as per the same listing.

The premature unveiling of the Galaxy J7 Prime 2 suggests the Android device is likely to be officially announced in a matter of days, possibly at some point next week. The product renders of the handset are indicative of Android 7.0 Nougat-based Samsung Experience being part of the package as well. Samsung is expected to release a wide variety of aggressively priced products such as the Galaxy J7 Prime 2 in India over the course of this year as the company is presently involved in a heated market battle with Xiaomi which has been recording unprecedented growth in the South Asian country in the last several years and threatened the Korean tech giant’s number one spot. The upcoming device appears to be positioned as a direct successor to the Galaxy J7 Prime commercialized in September of 2016 which also made its way to the United States and a number of other Western markets.
