Vivo has just announced a new smartphone, the Vivo V9. This handset comes with a display notch, like many other Chinese smartphones these days, and in addition to that, the device has really thin bezels. The company claims that Vivo V9 comes with a 90-percent screen-to-body ratio, and it also packs in AI features. The device has been announced in China, and it’s more or less exactly what we expected, as quite a few details surfaced ahead of time.
The Vivo V9 is made out of metal and glass, and it comes with a dual camera setup on its back. These two cameras are vertically-aligned, and they are not flush with the phone’s back. An LED flash sits right below those two cameras, while Vivo’s branding is included on the back of the device as well. The device does sports a thin ‘chin’ below its display, while the rest of its bezels are equally thin (1.75mm). The Vivo V9’s display features rounded corners, while the phone comes with a bottom-firing speaker, and micro USB, which is quite interesting, considering that most modern handsets do sport a Type-C USB port. Now, in terms of specs, the Vivo V9 is definitely a mid-range smartphone, the phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 626 64-bit octa-core processor by Qualcomm, and in addition to that, it packs in 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable internal storage (expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card).
A 6.3-inch fullHD+ (2280 x 1080) display is included here, which means we’re looking at a 19:9 display aspect ratio. 16 and 5-megapixel shooters are included on the back of the phone, while a single 24-megapixel snapper can be found on the phone’s front side, and it is placed inside of that notch. Vivo’s slogan for this phone is ‘Perfect Shot, Perfect View’, and it’s quite obvious that the company is advertising the phone’s cameras as one of its main features, especially its front-facing snapper. The Vivo V9 uses AI to help you get the best photo possible, as it sports what the company calls the ‘AI Face Beauty’ mode. This moe identifies your age, sex, skin tone, texture, and the surrounding lighting, and based on that, it will adapt your picture with help from AI. A number of camera modes are also included here, while AR Stickers are also a part of the package.
The Vivo V9 also comes with what Vivo calls ‘AI Smart Engine’, which will learn your usage habits and preferences in order to optimize the device, and make it perform the best it can. The Vivo V9 also comes with an updated ‘Game Mode’, as that moe can block messages, calls and other alerts while you’re playing a game, while it has some additional features as well. Now, as far as software is concerned, the Vivo V9 comes with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, while Vivo’s Funtouch UI is included on top of it. The phone will be available in Pearl Black and Gold color variants, while the company still did not share any pricing or availability info.
