Alleged Moto G6 Play Surfaces In A Short Hands-On Video

The alleged Moto G6 Play was seemingly spotted in a leaked hands-on video recently, confirming the handset’s design language but raising a few questions regarding certain technical specifications including the main camera setup. The leaked video at hand shows a working device as opposed to a dummy unit, and the smartphone has a familiar design which was previously explored through a couple of leaked renders. However, while the source claims that this is the Moto G6 Plus, the lack of a dual camera combo on the back panel lends more credibility to the idea that this may be the Moto G6 Play variant instead.

Motorola’s upcoming Moto G6 series is expected to include three main models, namely the Moto G6, G6 Plus, and G6 Play. According to previous leaks, the former two models should feature a dual camera on the back panel, whereas the budget-friendlier latter model should feature a single camera coupled with an LED flash enclosed in a circular camera housing. Additionally, according to previous leaks, the Moto G6 Play should be the only model in the series to make use of a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner right below the main camera, whereas the other two variants are expected to make use of front-facing fingerprint sensors. At the end of the day, Motorola has yet to officially announce these upcoming devices but assuming that the previous leaks and rumors turn out to be correct then it’s much more likely that the video at hand depicts the Moto G6 Play, and not the G6 Plus.

Motorola has been rather quiet lately and the OEM has yet to reveal any new smartphones this year, missing from both IFA in January and MWC in late February. Historically, the company’s Moto G series has been considered by many smartphone enthusiasts to be able and strike a great balance between features and affordability, and the upcoming Moto G6 lineup should be no different in this regard at least judging by bits of information so far. The Moto G6 Play which, again, should be the most affordable model from the series, is expected to employ a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset coupled with 2GB or 3GB of RAM, and feature a 5.7-inch display with an elongated 18:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1440 x 720. The single main camera likely boasts a resolution of 12-megapixels and the device should rely on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. Availability is uncertain but the Moto G6 lineup could theoretically be introduced within the next couple of months.
