Amazon Has Best Tech Impact On Society, Americans Believe: Poll

According to a recent poll conducted by SurveyMonkey and Recode, more Americans think Amazon provides more of a positive impact on society than any other major technology company. The online shipping and retail service giant managed no fewer than 20-percent of all top votes in the survey. Simultaneously, another 20-percent chose to answer “none of the above” rather than select any of the available options. As many as 2-percent of those polled chose not to answer at all. The company’s CEO was also at the top in terms of which firm’s leadership has the most impact on the respondents’ lives as Jeff Bezos earned a total of 22-percent of votes on the matter.

That’s probably not at all shocking, given the popularity of Amazon’s retail platform, services, and Alexa. However, as a recent study conducted by Oxford Economics shows, Google brings a lot to the table, too. That’s a fact that was reflected in the new results as well, with Google and its CEO Sundar Pichai coming in second on the list with 15-percent and 18-percent of all votes, respectively. Surprisingly, given the number of scandals surrounding the company, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg came in at third with 17-percent. However, Apple managed to beat out the social networking company with 11-percent, compared to Facebook’s 10-percent. That was followed by Microsoft at 7-percent and Tesla at 6-percent. Uber, Netflix, Twitter, Snap, and Lyft filled out the remaining eleven spots with 3-percent or less for each.

The survey itself, meanwhile, was conducted from April 8 through April 9 and garnered responses from 2,772 U.S. adults. Given that sample size, and bearing in mind that it’s almost always worth taking these kinds of surveys with a grain of salt, it’s worth pointing out that the results here could be inaccurate. With that said, Amazon has been the subject of far fewer controversies than any of the other companies listed for the respondents to select from. On the other hand, since a total of 22-percent of those surveyed refused to respond or selecting the “none” option, that’s not necessarily a bragging point. That’s because on the surface, it would appear to suggest that a significant percentage of American individuals don’t believe any of the tech companies are bettering society.
