Four already released Samsung Galaxy-branded smartphones have been certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance, though this time they’re running Android 8.0 Oreo. Samsung had already released the Android 8.0 Oreo update for its 2017 flagship smartphones, including the Galaxy S8, S8 Plus and Note 8, and it seems like the company is turning its attention to its mid-range handset. The Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, A5 (2017), and A3 (2017) have been certified with Android 8.0 Oreo.
Now, as per usual, this certification more or less indicates that all four of these smartphones will be receiving Android 8.0 Oreo in the near future, as the Wi-Fi Alliance certification is usually one of the last steps before the update starts rolling out. Now, if rumors are to be believed, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will start receiving Android 8.0 Oreo before the end of this month, which goes hand-in-hand with the timing of these certification listings. Samsung did not officially confirm anything just yet, and chances are we won’t get any sort of an official confirmation before the update starts rolling out to the four devices mentioned above. The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are, as most of you already know, Samsung’s flagship handsets for 2016. Both of these phones were introduced in H1 2016, and considering that the Galaxy Note 7 got recalled due to battery issues, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are the only flagship phones Samsung had in 2016. Both of these phones are made out of metal and glass, the Galaxy S7 Edge sports a curved display, unlike the Galaxy S7 Edge, and it is also larger than its sibling. Other than that, these two devices are almost identical.
The Galaxy A3 (2017) and A5 (2017) were both announced last year, as their name says. Both devices were introduced in January, and these are Samsung’s budget offerings. The Galaxy A5 (2017) is more powerful than its A3 sibling, and both phones were originally introduced with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, while they got updated to Android 7.0 Nougat later on. The Galaxy A3 and A5 (2018 edition) have not been announced just yet, by the way, in case you were wondering.
