Anker’s home and lifestyle sub-brand, Eufy, has just announced a new product, which is currently available on Kickstarter for crowdfunding. It’s the Eufy EverCam, which is a security camera for your home, and coincides with Eufy’s existing home ecosystem. It’s quite clear by the look and functionality of the EverCam, that Anker is looking to compete with NETGEAR’s Arlo security cameras, which currently have the largest market share. The EverCam is going to be a wireless security camera, and Eufy is promising around a year of battery life, before needing to recharge the camera. Allowing you to truly put it outside and forget about it.
With the EverCam, Anker is looking to change the market of security cameras. Instead of being stuck with wired cameras, or expensive wireless cameras, and paying extra for more storage of footage captured with the camera, Eufy is making an inexpensive wireless camera, that includes free cloud storage, that also encrypts your footage. That’s a big deal, as with other companies, like NETGEAR, Nest and many more, you can end up paying nearly $50/month for cloud storage – along with a few other features that may be included. Eufy also says that the EverCam will continue to record for hours when the power goes out. And where power does typically go out during major storms, that’s also a big deal. Finally, the EverCam does have artificial intelligence included here, which works with the motion detection features. The included AI is going to be able to recognize you, your family and friends. So that it only alerts you when it sees someone that it does not recognize. Eufy also says that it won’t alert you to animals like squirrels and dogs walking through the camera’s line of sight.
Eufy will be offering two cameras, a base station and outdoor mounting accessories with the EverCam. So you can pick up a kit and use one camera outside and another inside – perhaps facing a window or the front door. Now Anker is launching this on Kickstarter first, and the reasoning behind that is to essentially get some “beta testers”. Which will help Eufy develop some other features that users will want on the EverCam before it is officially released. Anker is no stranger to Kickstarter either, after having launched the Zolo Liberty truly wireless headphones on the platform last year (and it was massively successful.
