The upcoming HTC U12 Plus leaked in half a dozen new case renders, having been depicted in a series of promotional materials for a third-party accessory sold on the Taiwanese version of Yahoo’s online marketplace. The protective case itself is listed as being meant to fit the “HTC U12” but a number of recent reports suggest such a device will never make its way to the market, with the HTC U12 Plus being expected to be the company’s only 2018 flagship. The handset in question features what appears to be a metal unibody design, suggesting the Taipei-based original equipment manufacturer will once again circumvent wireless charging in the premium segment of the market.
The finish of the newly sighted HTC U12 Plus is of the metallic blue variety, with the smartphone itself featuring an elongated display panel that appears to utilize the 18:9 (2:1) aspect ratio. Unlike many upcoming notch-equipped Android phones, the HTC U12 Plus seems to be missing any kind of a screen cutout and instead sports a more symmetrical aesthetic with slim top and bottom bezels. The renders also show two dual-camera setups, one on each side of the device, as well as a rear-mounted fingerprint reader and a relatively large dual-LED flash. According to recent reports, the HTC U12 Plus will be offered in two variants, with the base model sporting 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal flash memory, whereas a more premium version of the handset should double on the amount of storage space but otherwise be identical to its other counterpart.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 is also expected to be part of the new HTC-made mobile package, as is the company’s pressure-sensitive “Edge Sense” frame which allows users to squeeze the sides of the device in order to take pictures, quickly launch apps, or perform a number of other actions depending on the current contents of their screen and the amount of physical pressure exerted on the handset’s edges. The HTC U12 Plus is expected to debut in early May and go on sale worldwide by June.
