LG G7 Front Panel Leaks With Notch, Tall Aspect Ratio

An image depicting what’s said to be the front panel of the G7 Android flagship appeared online earlier today, having been shared by one industry insider from Vietnam where LG’s next mobile offering is expected to be manufactured. The photograph that can be seen above adds even more credence to recent leaks and reports indicating the successor to the LG G6 will feature a screen with a small display notch and an aspect ratio in the ballpark of 19:9. The cutout seen on the leaked panel appears to have been designed to house a regular front-facing camera, ambient light sensor, and an earpiece, with the Seoul-based original equipment manufacturer seemingly opting against implementing a 3D camera system into the notch.

The overall look of the panel corresponds with over a dozen new LG G7 renders that emerged earlier today, suggesting the upcoming phablet will feature a largely bezel-less aesthetic and a small chin underneath which its screen will be connected to the motherboard. More recent reports indicate the handset will also see LG’s signature rear-mounted power button moved to its right edge and also feature another physical key beneath its volume controls on the left edge of its case. That button is said to be dedicated to artificial intelligence applications and will be capable of performing tasks such as launching the Google Assistant, Q Lens, and Q Voice, insiders claim.

While the G6 was unveiled over a year ago at Mobile World Congress 2017, LG pushed back the launch of its successor as part of its revised mobile strategy that did away with new flagship products releases after an arbitrary 12-month mark. The Android phablet is now expected to be unveiled in late April before going on sale in select countries in mid-May, as per latest reports on the matter. The G7 is said to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 and a memory base of 4GB of RAM and 64GB of flash storage, as well as a quad-DAC setup and a dual-camera setup consisting of at least one f/1.5 lens.
